Dave Brave Heart

Join us in celebration and remembrance of Dave Brave Heart at the 52nd Annual Mahkato Wacipi on:
Sunday September 22 at 11:00am.
Giveaways and a feast hosted by Sara Brave Heart and her family will be a part of this memorial celebration. All are welcome!
Dave Brave Heart was the treasurer of the committee from 2012 – 2016 and chair of the Mahkato Wacipi from 2016 to 2022. Dave and his family moved to Mankato in 2011 to be a part of the work of reconciliation for the community. He is survived by his wife Sara and his four children – Michael, Gerald, Cyrus, and Clementine. David Brave Heart, Hunkpati Dakota and Oglala Lakota, was an enrolled member of Oglala Sioux Tribe. He was a traditional singer, gifted flute player, and had several outdoor hobbies. Dave was 48 years sober and worked throughout American Indian communities to encourage sobriety, wellness and healing. Dave was dedicated to all efforts of reconciliation and education for Mankato, including the recognition of Indigenous Peoples Day, helping establish a land acknowledgment for the City of Mankato, and other efforts to celebrate Indigenous contributions here in Mankato.
